The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has joined Nigerians in marking this year’s Father’s Day, commending fathers across the country for their contributions to family stability, moral upbringing, and national development.

This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu.

The IGP, speaking on behalf of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, described fathers as central to the nurturing of responsible citizens and the strengthening of the social fabric that sustains peaceful communities.

He said fathers play a critical role in shaping discipline, integrity, hard work, and patriotism in children, values he described as essential to nation-building.

“The Inspector-General of Police acknowledges the pivotal role fathers play in nurturing responsible children, promoting sound moral values, and instilling discipline, integrity, hard work and patriotism that are essential for nation-building,” the statement read.

The police chief also highlighted the daily sacrifices made by fathers in providing guidance, protection, and support for their families, noting that such efforts continue to reinforce social cohesion and national progress.

In a special message, the IGP commended police officers who combine demanding operational duties with fatherhood, acknowledging their commitment both at home and in service to the nation.

He noted that many officers spend long hours away from their families while remaining dedicated to their roles as parents, guardians, and role models.

“The Inspector-General particularly salutes police officers who, despite the demanding nature of their responsibilities, continue to serve as dedicated fathers and guardians within their families,” the statement added.

As part of the Father’s Day message, the IGP extended goodwill wishes to all fathers nationwide, praying for their continued strength, wisdom, and good health.

He also urged Nigerians to recognise and appreciate the sacrifices of fathers, saying their contributions remain vital to building a safer and more prosperous society.

“The Inspector-General wishes all fathers good health, strength, wisdom and fulfilment. He urges Nigerians to honour and appreciate the sacrifices and enduring influence of fathers whose efforts contribute immensely to national development,” the statement said.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while strengthening community partnerships and promoting values that support family cohesion and social stability.
