Iran has issued a strong warning to the United States, declaring that its armed forces are “ready to respond” following fresh threats from US President Donald Trump over Tehran’s support for Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The warning came on Sunday from Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Ghalibaf, who dismissed Washington’s rhetoric and insisted that Iran would not be intimidated by American pressure.
“Don’t they think that if their threats had any effect, they would not have reached today’s state of desperation? We do not take American threats into account,” Ghalibaf said.
He added that Iran’s military posture remained firm in the face of escalating tensions, stressing that “our armed forces are ready to respond to them in a different manner. No matter what they say, we are the ones who act.”
The exchange follows a series of remarks by President Trump on his Truth Social platform, where he demanded that Iran restrain what he described as “highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon” from attacking Israel.
“If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!!!” Trump wrote, escalating fears of a wider regional confrontation.
Tensions have continued to rise amid ongoing hostilities involving Israel and Hezbollah, with the Iran-backed group intensifying attacks in support of Tehran’s broader regional position.
Although fears of renewed strikes mounted, there were no immediate reports of fresh Israeli attacks or active fighting by Sunday evening.
Ghalibaf’s comments also came against the backdrop of diplomatic engagements involving the United States and Iran in Switzerland, where Pakistani and Qatari mediators have been facilitating discussions aimed at de-escalation.
Reports from Iran’s Fars news agency suggested that Trump’s latest remarks contributed to a suspension of the talks, although this has not been independently confirmed by other parties involved.
The diplomatic framework reportedly includes a preliminary understanding between Tehran and Washington, which commits both sides to avoid the use or threat of force against each other.
However, the latest exchange has cast fresh uncertainty over the fragile process, as both sides continue to trade warnings while regional tensions remain high.
