Tension Rises in Ibadan as Yoruba, Hausa Groups Clash

Tension spread across the Ojoo area of Ibadan on Tuesday after violence broke out between suspected Yoruba and Hausa groups, prompting the deployment of security personnel to prevent the situation from escalating.

The unrest reportedly followed the killing of a Yoruba tricycle mechanic, although authorities had yet to officially confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Residents said the victim was allegedly stabbed during an overnight altercation involving suspected scrap dealers, an incident that sparked anger among some youths in the area.

The development was said to have triggered clashes between members of the two groups, forcing many residents and business owners to flee over fears of further violence.

Claims that several people abandoned their homes could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

In response, security operatives, including personnel of Operation Burst and other agencies, were deployed to strategic locations around Ojoo to restore calm and maintain law and order.

The heavy security presence helped to contain the unrest, while patrols were intensified in and around the community to forestall any reprisal attack.
