The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has strengthened its collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina State to protect electricity transmission infrastructure from vandalism and right-of-way encroachment.
The renewed partnership was reinforced during a courtesy visit by TCN’s Katsina Sub-Region management team, led by the Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Engr. Usman S. Idris, to the NSCDC Katsina State Command.
During the visit, Idris commended the NSCDC for its prompt response to previous security concerns and briefed the command on recent incidents affecting transmission facilities in the sub-region.
He specifically cited the vandalism of Towers T-219 and T-228 along the Katsina–Daura 132kV transmission line, which was discovered during a routine patrol and has become a source of concern to the company.
According to him, such acts of sabotage threaten the integrity of the national transmission network and could undermine the stability of electricity supply in the affected areas.
“Such acts of sabotage threaten the integrity of the transmission network and jeopardize the stability of electricity supply, underscoring the need for sustained collaboration to protect critical national infrastructure,” Idris said.
Responding, the NSCDC Katsina State Commandant, Abbas Dan-Ile Moriki, disclosed that investigations into the reported incidents had commenced.
He assured TCN of the command’s continued support and pledged closer coordination to combat vandalism and right-of-way encroachment through proactive security measures.
“Investigations into the reported incidents have commenced, and the Command will continue to work closely with TCN to curb vandalism and right-of-way encroachment through proactive measures,” Moriki stated.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to enhanced information sharing and joint action in safeguarding the nation’s transmission infrastructure.
The partnership, according to TCN, is aimed at improving surveillance, preventing further attacks on power facilities and ensuring the uninterrupted transmission of electricity across the Katsina sub-region.
