The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has commended President Bola Tinubu, the Oyo State Government and security agencies for the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire community in Oyo State, describing the operation as a major boost to efforts aimed at protecting schools across the country.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Communications and Media, Ikharo Attah, the minister said the successful operation underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to the safety and well-being of every Nigerian child.

The rescued victims had spent about 56 days in captivity after gunmen attacked schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15 before security agencies secured their release through a coordinated operation.

Alausa praised President Tinubu for providing leadership throughout the rescue efforts, saying no effort was spared until the victims regained their freedom.

He also commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the state government for working closely with security agencies and supporting efforts that led to the victims’ safe return.

The minister further applauded the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security and intelligence agencies for what he described as their professionalism, courage and effective coordination during the operation.

“The successful rescue of these innocent children and their teachers is a moment of great relief for the nation. It reflects the determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to protect the lives of Nigerians and demonstrates the growing effectiveness of collaboration among the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government and our security agencies,” he said.

Congratulating the President, Alausa added: “On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education, I congratulate Mr. President on this important achievement. I also commend the Oyo State Government for its support and commitment throughout this difficult period, and sincerely appreciate the bravery, patriotism and tireless efforts of all the security personnel whose dedication made this rescue possible. Their collective efforts have restored hope to the affected families and reassured Nigerians that our institutions remain resolute in confronting criminality.”

The minister expressed sympathy to the rescued pupils, teachers and their families over the trauma they experienced during their ordeal and prayed for their full physical and psychological recovery.

He reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Education’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to strengthen security in schools across the country in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.

Alausa also urged parents, school authorities, host communities and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies to ensure schools remain safe environments for teaching and learning.
