Falconets Crush England 3-0 to Reach World Cup Quarter-finals

Nigeria’s Falconets stormed into the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Thursday after a convincing 3-0 victory over England.

The Nigerian side took control early and never surrendered their advantage as Tosin Rafiu, Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei and Mary Mamudu found the net.

Rafiu opened the scoring in the eighth minute after the Falconets made a bright start to the round-of-16 encounter.

The FC Robo Queens midfielder converted Nigeria’s early pressure into her second goal of the tournament.

England responded with a spell of pressure and nearly drew level in the 26th minute.

However, Falconets captain Christiana Uzoma stood between the European side and an equaliser.

She produced a crucial save to deny Princess Ademiluyi and protect Nigeria’s narrow advantage.

Uzoma then delivered another decisive intervention eight minutes later when she stopped Rachel Maltby’s penalty.

Her save ensured the Falconets carried their 1-0 lead into the break despite England’s efforts to restore parity.

Nigeria returned from the interval with renewed purpose and quickly extended their advantage.

Just two minutes into the second half, Akekoromowei struck in the 47th minute to make it 2-0.

The goal further unsettled England as the Falconets continued to create opportunities and control the contest.

Mamudu then put the result beyond doubt in the 73rd minute when she scored Nigeria’s third goal.

The victory gave the Falconets their second win of the tournament and strengthened their impressive scoring record.

Nigeria have now scored 13 goals in four matches at the competition.

Their campaign has produced two victories, one draw and one defeat.

They have also kept two clean sheets, underlining their defensive improvement as the tournament enters its decisive stage.

The Falconets will now turn their attention to the quarter-finals, where they will face either Poland or Colombia.

The last-eight encounter will take place on September 20 at Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź in Łódź.

Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nigerian time.

The emphatic victory over England gives Nigeria renewed confidence as the Falconets continue their pursuit of a deep run at the global tournament.
