NDC Prepares Party Agents as Presidential Campaign Kicks Off October

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has begun preparations for the deployment of party agents ahead of its presidential campaign, scheduled to kick off in October.

The party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has directed its State and Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen to immediately meet candidates and other stakeholders to compile and harmonise lists of agents for the 2027 general elections.

The directive, issued in line with the Electoral Act, 2026, is aimed at putting the party’s election-day structures in place before campaign activities gather momentum.

Under the arrangement, the party will prepare separate lists of agents for National Assembly elections and for governorship and State Assembly elections.

The State and LGA chairmen are expected to work with candidates and other stakeholders to produce the lists. Party leadership will then scrutinise and ratify the names before training begins.

The party said the process would involve candidates directly and would also allow them to have the final say where disagreements arise over the choice of agents.

It directed that the final lists must carry the signatures of both the relevant State chairmen and candidates to establish their authenticity and ownership.

“Where there is a difference of opinion between the party leadership and the candidate, the choice of the candidate would prevail,” the party said.

The NDC also gave its state and LGA structures two weeks from the date of the directive to complete the exercise and submit the final lists.

The process is expected to cover agents for both national and state-level elections, creating a structured network for the party ahead of the polls.

The party’s leadership said the presidential candidate and his running mate would also participate in the ratification process before the selected agents undergo training.

“The agreed list of party agents must be duly counter-signed by the State Chairman and the respective candidates to ensure authenticity and ownership,” the NDC said.

The party described the move as part of its wider preparations for the forthcoming elections, as it seeks to strengthen its structures across the country ahead of the October campaign launch.

It also appealed to members, supporters and other stakeholders to comply promptly with the directive and assist in completing the process within the stipulated period.

“We are fully prepared and ready for a robust, issue-based campaign,” the party said.

The NDC added that it had put the necessary structures in place for the campaign and expressed confidence in its readiness for the electoral contest.

The party also thanked its members and supporters for their continued commitment and loyalty as preparations intensify.

“We appreciate the continued commitment and loyalty of all party faithful,” it said, urging them to work with the party structures to ensure the successful completion of the agents’ selection exercise.

The deployment of agents forms part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the presidential campaign expected to formally begin in October.
