AMAC Poll Result Not Reflection of Voters’ Will, Says ADC Candidate

ADC AMAC Chairmanship candidate, Paul Moses

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chairmanship candidate in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election, Dr. Moses Paul, has rejected the outcome of last Saturday’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council poll, describing it as a misrepresentation of the electorate’s will.

In a statement issued on Monday, Paul said the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not reflect the wishes of voters who participated in the election.

INEC, through the collation officer Andrew Abue, had announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Christopher Maikalangu, as winner of the chairmanship contest in AMAC.

According to the declared results, Maikalangu polled 40,295 votes to defeat Paul, who secured 12,109 votes.

However, the ADC candidate alleged irregularities in the process, accusing the electoral body of disregarding the sensibilities of voters.

“These actions undermine the integrity of the electoral process and the confidence of the people in our democracy,” Paul said.

He claimed that many voters had expressed dissatisfaction with the announced results, insisting that the outcome did not align with their expectations.

Despite his objections, Paul thanked the electorate, his supporters and the leadership of the ADC for their backing during the campaign.

“My dear people, listen carefully: No force in history has ever defeated an idea whose time has come,” he stated.

“What began here in AMAC will not end here. What has been ignited in your hearts cannot be extinguished by any announcement or delayed by any process.

“Nations are not transformed in a single election; they are transformed by the steady, unrelenting courage of ordinary people who refuse to accept an ordinary future. I remain committed to you, accountable to you, and I remain one of you. This is not the end of our journey.”

INEC is yet to respond to the allegations raised by the ADC candidate as political reactions continue to trail the AMAC chairmanship result.
