Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior officers across the Nigeria Police Force in a move aimed at boosting morale, rewarding diligence and strengthening professionalism within the ranks.

The promotion exercise, which spans commands and formations nationwide, is one of the largest personnel advancement exercises undertaken by the Force in recent times.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, who said the exercise reflects the commitment of the police leadership to recognising officers who have distinguished themselves through hard work, dedication and exemplary service.

According to the statement, 165 Sergeants were elevated to the rank of Inspector, while 73 Corporals were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

The exercise also saw 17,714 Constables advance to the rank of Corporal, accounting for the bulk of the beneficiaries.

“The promotion exercise, which cuts across Commands and Formations nationwide, comprises the elevation of 165 Sergeants to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals to the rank of Sergeant, and 17,714 Constables to the rank of Corporal,” Placid stated.

The police spokesman noted that the promotions form part of ongoing efforts to improve personnel welfare and encourage career progression among deserving officers.

He said the Force leadership considers timely promotion an essential aspect of effective human resource management and a critical tool for motivating personnel to remain committed to their constitutional duties.

According to him, the elevation of qualified officers further demonstrates the determination of the current administration of the Force to uphold merit, promote professional growth and strengthen institutional capacity.

Disu, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, urged them to see their advancement as a call to higher responsibility and greater dedication to service.

He charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and ethical conduct.

The Inspector-General also reminded the officers of the need to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and to carry out their duties with integrity, respect for human rights and strict adherence to the rule of law.

He stressed that promotion comes with increased expectations and responsibilities, adding that the beneficiaries must remain focused on protecting lives and property while contributing to efforts aimed at enhancing public trust in the Force.

Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to recognising excellence, rewarding hard work and building a modern institution capable of meeting contemporary security challenges.

He expressed optimism that the latest promotions would further motivate officers and men of the Force to remain dedicated to their duties and contribute meaningfully to the maintenance of law and order across the country.
