Court Orders INEC to Recognise NDC’s Two-Finger Logo

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise and use the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)’s modified two-finger logo as its official party symbol.

The judgment followed a suit filed by the NDC after INEC removed the modified digital logo it had earlier uploaded and reinstated the association logo under which the party was initially registered.

In a statement signed on Thursday by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, the party said its First National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on March 25, 2026 approved the modified logo and forwarded it to INEC.

According to the party, INEC subsequently uploaded the new logo but later removed it without communicating any reason to the NDC.

The party said it gave the commission sufficient time to resolve the matter administratively before resorting to legal action.

Delivering judgment, Justice J.O. Abdulmalik ordered INEC to approve the modified logo, including its symbol and colours, for the party’s official use.

The court described the symbol as a digitally designed “two-finger victory sign” with a blue background and the word “NDC” written in red.

The order covers the party’s use of the logo for all purposes, including elections conducted by INEC across Nigeria.

The court also granted a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from stopping or interfering with the NDC’s use of the two-finger victory sign.

The NDC welcomed the judgment and thanked the judiciary for what it described as a timely intervention in the dispute.

Following the ruling, the party directed all its candidates and members to use only the approved logo on campaign materials and other publicity items, including banners and posters.

It also acknowledged that some candidates and members might have already produced materials bearing the old logo.

The party expressed regret over any inconvenience caused and said it would intensify public sensitisation to ensure that members and supporters adopt the approved symbol.

The NDC assured its candidates and supporters that there was no cause for concern, adding that the party remained committed to moving forward together.
