The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed strong concern over the reported Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar, on September 9, 2025, allegedly targeting senior members of the Hamas leadership.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, Nigeria warned that the incident raises grave questions about regional stability and the future of diplomatic efforts to resolve the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Nigeria underscores the primacy of respecting the sovereignty of all nations and adhering to international law, particularly in matters involving the use of force across borders,” the statement read.

The Federal Government noted Qatar’s longstanding role as a mediator in the Middle East and urged all sides to avoid escalating tensions.

“In this context, Nigeria urges all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid escalation and recommit to peaceful engagement,” Ebienfa said.

Nigeria also conveyed its sympathies to those affected by the incident and reaffirmed its support for diplomatic initiatives geared towards de-escalation and peacebuilding.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the incident and reiterate our unwavering support for initiatives that promote de-escalation, dialogue, and durable peace,” the statement added.

The government emphasized that it remains committed to working with the international community, within the framework of the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, to advance peace, security, and the rule of law in the Middle East and beyond.
