Pro-Wike PDP Faction Elects Mohammed, Anyanwu as Chairman, Secretary

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has affirmed Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary.

The decision was taken at a convention held in Abuja on Sunday, where about 2,500 delegates endorsed a 19-member National Working Committee (NWC) and other national officers of the party.

The motion for the affirmation was moved by the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and seconded by Usman Adamu.

Other officials ratified at the gathering include Aaron Chukwuemeka as Deputy National Chairman (South), Yusufu Nya Akirikwen (SAN) as Deputy National Chairman (North), Kolawale Olabisi as Deputy National Secretary, Odeyemei Mackson Oladiran as National Treasurer, and Lado Dan Marke as Deputy National Treasurer, among others.

Addressing delegates, Wike said the gathering symbolised a renewed strength within the party despite its recent internal challenges.

“We gathered here as a congregation of victorious men and women whose badge of honour remains the umbrella,” he said. “We overcame a tragic crisis of leadership that threatened to destroy our party.”

He added that the struggle within the party helped restore internal democracy and return control to its members.

“We fought and returned the party to its rightful owners, the people,” Wike said.

The former governor of Rivers State commended party loyalists for standing firm during the crisis, noting that their resilience ensured the survival of the PDP.

“You refused to be discouraged when some who claimed to be leaders abandoned the party. You stayed the course, believing that better days would come,” he told the delegates.

Wike also praised grassroots supporters across the country for their loyalty, despite defections by some political figures.

“While some moved from one party to another for personal gain, our members remained faithful. They prayed for a rebirth, and today, that rebirth is here,” he added.

Looking ahead, he called for unity and inclusiveness as the party rebuilds.

“The path forward must be built on unity, inclusion and renewal. No one should be left out, and everyone must have equal opportunity to serve,” he said.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were present at the convention, according to Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka.

The convention comes amid lingering internal disputes within the PDP, including legal challenges over a previous convention held in Ibadan, Ibadan, in November 2025.

Despite the crisis, party leaders at the Abuja gathering expressed confidence that the PDP would emerge stronger and more united.
