ADC Lacks Credibility to Criticise Tinubu, Says TDF

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Democratic Front (TDF) has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the opposition party lacks the credibility to fault the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly on the issue of rising fuel prices.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group took aim at remarks made by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, describing his comments as misguided and politically motivated.

The TDF argued that recent increases in fuel prices are largely driven by global developments, including tensions in the Middle East, and should not be blamed on the federal government.

“It is sad and regrettable that ADC’s desperation for power has deprived the party of conscience and empathy towards the economic plight of Nigerians,” the group said, insisting that the criticism was unfair and lacked objectivity.

The group also rejected claims that Nigerians are yet to feel the impact of the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” maintaining that the policy direction is already producing tangible outcomes across various sectors.

According to TDF, interventions such as the student loan scheme under NELFUND and increased allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) have strengthened the capacity of state governments to deliver development projects.

“We find it hypocritical and irresponsible that Bolaji Abdullahi will feign ignorance of initiatives like education loans for indigent students and improved FAAC revenues, which have enhanced grassroots development,” the statement noted.

The group further accused Abdullahi of inconsistency, pointing out that he had previously praised the student loan initiative in a policy article before taking up his current role as an opposition spokesperson.

Highlighting broader economic measures, TDF cited government investments in agriculture, which it said are helping to boost food production and moderate inflation. It added that the administration has also made strides in housing and healthcare.

The statement claimed that over 15,000 housing units have been completed for low- and middle-income earners, while reforms in the health sector have led to the training of tens of thousands of frontline workers and expanded access to health insurance for millions of Nigerians.

TDF also revisited Abdullahi’s role in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, arguing that policies implemented during that period failed to deliver meaningful economic growth.

It concluded by urging the ADC spokesman to refrain from what it described as baseless attacks on the current administration, warning that such criticisms would not improve the party’s standing with Nigerians.

“We call on Malam Abdullahi to desist from his campaign of calumny against the Tinubu administration, as it offers no benefit to a party already weighed down by the public records of its leaders,” the group added.
