A member of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tolu Bankole, has lauded Nigerian workers for their resilience and patriotism, assuring them that ongoing economic reforms will ultimately translate into improved living conditions.
In a statement issued on Friday to mark the 2026 Workers’ Day, Bankole said the contributions of workers across sectors remain critical to national stability and development, describing them as the engine room of the economy.
He noted that despite prevailing economic pressures, Nigerian workers have continued to demonstrate commitment and sacrifice, sustaining productivity in both public and private institutions.
“As we mark Workers’ Day, I salute the strength, courage, and determination of every Nigerian worker. Your daily efforts are the foundation upon which our nation’s future is being built,” he said.
The APC chieftain linked the sacrifices of workers to the broader reform agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that current policies are aimed at repositioning the country for long-term growth and global competitiveness.
According to him, the administration’s socio-economic policies are driven by a long-term vision designed to stabilise the economy, attract investment and create sustainable opportunities for Nigerians.
“Our party’s policies are not driven by short-term considerations only, but by a long-term national vision to build a stronger, more prosperous, and globally competitive Nigeria,” he said.
Bankole pointed to what he described as relative stability in key sectors, including education, as early signs that the reforms are beginning to yield results, while acknowledging that the transition period may come with challenges.
He maintained that the gains recorded so far represent only the initial phase of a broader transformation process, expressing confidence that workers will be among the biggest beneficiaries as the reforms mature.
“What we are seeing today are encouraging early gains, but the bigger rewards are ahead. When the dividends of these policies mature fully, Nigerian workers will be the greatest beneficiaries,” he added.
He urged workers to remain steadfast and continue to support government policies, stressing that national development requires collective effort, patience and shared responsibility.
Bankole also reassured workers that their welfare remains central to the APC’s governance priorities, noting that ongoing reforms are targeted at improving living standards and securing a more prosperous future.
He concluded by wishing Nigerian workers a peaceful and fulfilling May Day celebration, expressing optimism that the country is on a steady path toward economic recovery and inclusive growth.
