Members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in the House of Representatives have pledged sustained opposition politics and reaffirmed their loyalty to the party leadership as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmakers, led by the House Minority Leader, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, made the commitment on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the NDC National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, at his residence in Abuja.

The delegation included several lawmakers such as Hon. George Ozodinobi, Hon. Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, Hon. Lillian Orogbu, Hon. Atta Thaddeous Achief, Hon. Chijioke Okereke, Hon. Peter Ozokwe, Hon. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, Hon. Emeka Idu, Hon. Manuchim Omezuruike, Hon. Muktar Umar Zakari, Hon. Yusuf Umar Datti, Hon. Peter Aniekwe and Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo.

Also present at the meeting were prominent political figures including the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other party leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the caucus, Hon. Ogene said the visit was meant to reassure the party leadership of the lawmakers’ commitment to democratic accountability and effective opposition in the National Assembly.

“We are here to reaffirm our commitment to serve the Nigerian people in line with the ideals of our party—service to the people,” Ogene said.

He stressed that the caucus would remain resolute in holding the government accountable to ensure delivery of democratic dividends.

“In rendering this service, we will hold the government of the day accountable so that Nigerians can enjoy the basic necessities of democracy and civil governance,” he added.

Ogene described the NDC caucus as the leading opposition voice in the House of Representatives, noting that its growing membership would strengthen its influence both locally and internationally.

“With our numbers growing, our voice will be stronger and more effective in holding government accountable not just within Nigeria, but beyond our borders,” he said.

He also assured the party leadership of unwavering loyalty to both the NDC and the Nigerian electorate.

“We remain committed to the party and to the Nigerian people. Our loyalty is firm and our purpose is clear,” Ogene stated.

Responding on behalf of the party leadership, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso commended the lawmakers for their unity and commitment, describing loyalty as a rare quality in modern Nigerian politics.

He welcomed the caucus on behalf of Senator Dickson and other party leaders, assuring them of continued collaboration and support.

“We appreciate your loyalty, which is a very rare commodity in today’s political environment. We will continue to work with you to ensure collective success,” Kwankwaso said.

He also called on Nigerians to actively participate in the political process by registering with political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kwankwaso urged party members to intensify mobilisation efforts at the grassroots, particularly among young people, to build momentum for what he described as an emerging political shift.

“Let us go back to our constituencies and mobilise our people, especially the youth, so that we can achieve the change Nigerians are calling for,” he said.

The meeting is seen as part of broader political consultations within the opposition as parties reposition ahead of the next general elections.
