The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 57 suspected criminals in a coordinated sweep of Jimeta, Girei and Yola metropolis as part of intensified operations against Shilla gangsterism and other violent crimes.

The operation, carried out across identified criminal black spots, targeted suspected gang hideouts and areas known for drug-related activities, public nuisance and other unlawful behaviour.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer for the Commissioner of Police, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the exercise was conducted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan.

The statement explained that divisional police officers, working under area commanders, executed the raids simultaneously, leading to the arrest of 57 suspects linked to Shilla gang activities, possession of dangerous weapons, and involvement with prohibited substances.

During the operation, police recovered various dangerous weapons and suspected illicit drugs from the suspects. The exhibits, the Command said, have been properly documented and will be presented in court as evidence during prosecution.

All the suspects have been charged to court, while investigations and profiling are ongoing to determine their level of involvement in other criminal activities within and outside the affected communities.

The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their professionalism and coordination during the exercise, describing the operation as part of sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal gangs and restoring lasting peace across Adamawa State.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible and timely information, noting that community cooperation remains critical to sustaining gains in the fight against crime.
