Mob Lynches Three Agberos for Causing Fatal Accident in Abuja

Tragedy struck at Mabushi Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday when a family of four was killed in a crash involving suspected touts, prompting angry residents to lynch three of the culprits.
Eyewitnesses said the agberos attempted to seize the steering of a moving vehicle, causing it to plunge off the bridge and kill all occupants instantly.
Videos of the aftermath circulating on X, formerly Twitter, showed furious passersby attacking the suspects. The three were beaten and set ablaze on the spot, as frustration boiled over against their long-standing harassment of motorists in the area.
The development has renewed concerns over the growing presence of touts in the Federal Capital Territory, with residents noting that Abuja has not traditionally been associated with agbero activity.
Some social media users alleged their activities have become more visible since 2023, while others accused the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of issuing identification to touts.
The Mabushi Bridge has a history of fatal incidents, including a crash in 2022 that claimed the life of a taxi driver.
Public outrage has since trailed Wednesday’s tragedy, with calls for urgent government action to regulate motor parks, enforce traffic rules, and curb the spread of touts in the city.
Authorities were yet to issue an official statement as of press time.
