Suspected terrorists have reportedly killed more than 25 residents in a midnight attack on Naridon village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The assailants were said to have stormed the community around 1:00 a.m. on Monday, unleashing gunfire on residents who were asleep and triggering panic across the village.
Residents said the attackers fired indiscriminately, forcing many people to flee into surrounding bushes in search of safety.
Although the exact casualty figure has yet to be officially confirmed, local sources said no fewer than 25 people were feared killed, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The attack has left the community in grief, with families searching for missing relatives as local volunteers and security personnel commence rescue and recovery operations.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while no group had claimed responsibility for the attack.
The latest assault has renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Southern Kaduna, where several communities have suffered repeated attacks in recent years, leading to deaths, displacement of residents and destruction of property.
Authorities are expected to provide further details as investigations continue.
