Abducted NYSC Member Appears in New Video, Denies Death Rumours

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) earlier feared dead by his family has surfaced in a new video released by his abductors, indicating that he is still alive in captivity.
The corps member, identified simply as Abba, was seen in the footage which circulated online on Sunday, speaking from what appeared to be the kidnappers’ hideout.
In the video, Abba stated that the recording was made on the 19th day of Ramadan, contradicting earlier fears by his family that he might have been killed.
Relatives of the victim had earlier raised alarm after reportedly paying a ransom of N10 million to the kidnappers without receiving further communication from them.
The prolonged silence from the abductors had heightened fears about his safety, prompting the family to hold a funeral prayer in absentia, known in Islamic tradition as Janaza Gha’ib.
However, the newly released video indicates that the corps member is still alive despite the earlier assumptions about his fate.
Sources familiar with the situation said the abductors are still negotiating with the family and have reportedly made additional demands for his release.
According to the sources, the kidnappers are requesting two motorcycles as part of fresh conditions for setting the victim free.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the development as efforts to secure the corps member’s release continue.
