Police Nab Four for Impersonating Wike to Defraud Retired General, Others

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested four men accused of impersonating officials linked to the Federal Capital Territory administration and defrauding a retired senior military officer and others of more than N150 million in a fake land deal in Abuja.
The prime suspect, Yashim Kajang, was apprehended on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, following allegations that he falsely claimed close ties to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as well as officials in the Department of Lands.
Investigators say he used the claims to convince victims of his capacity to facilitate the allocation of choice plots within the capital city.
According to police findings, Kajang allegedly deceived a retired Major General, identified as A.K. Ibrahim, along with other victims, into paying over N150 million for a purported land transaction located at Guzape II Cadastral Zone in Abuja.
The property in question, described as Plot 1985 and measuring about three hectares, was presented as a legitimate allocation backed by official documentation.
Police sources revealed that the suspect collected large sums under the pretext of processing and delivering land titles but failed to produce any genuine documents. The scheme reportedly relied on fabricated assurances of insider access within the FCT administration.
During interrogation, Kajang allegedly named three accomplices; Stephen Mhambe and Danladi Jatau, said to be staff members of the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), and Terngu Ipaven, a resident of Durumi area of Abuja.
He reportedly confessed that the trio provided him with sensitive land-related data and information, which he used to make the fraudulent scheme appear credible to unsuspecting victims.
All four suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities working to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify other possible victims.
The case adds to growing concerns over land scams in Abuja, where fraudsters increasingly exploit the names of high-ranking government officials to lend credibility to illegal transactions.
