ADC Crisis Deepens as Binani Camp Exits Adamawa Chapter

The crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress in Adamawa State has escalated, following the withdrawal of a major faction loyal to Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani from the party.
The group announced its decision after a stakeholders’ meeting, citing what it described as a breakdown of internal democracy and growing discontent with the party’s leadership at both state and national levels.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the bloc accused party leaders of sidelining members and imposing structures that lack legitimacy.
“The actions of the party leadership have destroyed internal democracy, undermined the rule of law, and rendered the party structure in Adamawa State unacceptable,” the statement read.
The disagreement is linked to the outcome of recent party congresses, which the faction claimed were manipulated and conducted in disregard of existing court orders and injunctions. The stakeholders alleged that the process was dominated by imposition and exclusion of key actors.
According to the group, the development has eroded confidence in the party’s ability to function as a credible democratic platform in the state.
Declaring a vote of no confidence in the leadership, the faction announced what it described as an immediate and irreversible mass resignation from the ADC, while rejecting the outcomes of the disputed congresses.
“We refuse to be part of a system that thrives on injustice, impunity and illegality,” the communiqué stated.
The group also signalled plans to realign politically ahead of the 2027 elections, mandating Binani to lead consultations and coordinate their next move, although no new platform has been formally announced.
Observers say the exit of the Binani-backed bloc could reshape the political dynamics in Adamawa, where the senator remains a prominent figure with influence across the three senatorial zones.
The development adds to internal tensions within opposition parties across the country, raising concerns about party cohesion as preparations for future elections gather pace.
