Police Rescue Abducted Newborn, Arrest Two Suspects in Nasarawa

JOEL OLADELE, Abuja

The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a three-day-old baby boy who was abducted in Mararaba area of Karu Local Government Area, arresting two suspects linked to the crime.

The command disclosed that the infant was recovered during a coordinated operation by its operatives following a report lodged by the mother, 19-year-old Aisha Bada, a resident of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the incident was reported on March 29, 2026, at about 5:45 a.m.

According to the statement, the young mother told police that unknown persons had broken into her apartment in an uncompleted building on the outskirts of Unguwan Bawa while she was asleep and made away with her newborn.

“She stated that on March 28, at about 11:50 a.m., two unidentified men gained access into her residence, threatened her with violence and abducted her three-day-old baby boy to an unknown destination,” the police said.

The command added that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, directed detectives from Mararaba ‘A’ Division to immediately swing into action and commence a full-scale investigation.

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives tracked down and arrested two suspects—35-year-old Furera Abdulrahman of Rugan Juli and 39-year-old Sadiya Abdullahi of Unguwan Bako—on April 3 at about 4:00 a.m.

“The abducted baby boy was found in their possession and successfully rescued,” the statement said.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the abduction and named an accomplice who is currently on the run.

Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and unravel the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

The rescued infant was taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where he was examined and certified to be in good health before being reunited with his parents.

The command further disclosed that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation after preliminary inquiries.

While assuring residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
