Troops Arrest 18 Suspected Terror Logistics Suppliers in North-East

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have arrested 18 persons suspected to be part of a logistics network supporting Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria’s North-East, the military has said.

The arrests followed an operation in which the suspects were intercepted while allegedly transporting supplies through Gubio en route to the Gudumbali axis, areas known for insurgent activities.

According to preliminary findings, the individuals were believed to be delivering items to members of the terrorist group, raising fresh concerns over the role of civilian collaborators in sustaining insurgency operations.

Military sources said initial confessions from the suspects indicated that many were drawn into the illicit activities due to economic hardship, a factor increasingly being exploited by criminal networks to recruit support.

The Nigerian Army, in a statement, warned citizens against engaging in any form of collaboration with terrorist groups, stressing that such actions pose serious threats to national security.

“Providing logistics, intelligence, or assistance to such elements remains a serious offence, with grave consequences for national security and the safety of innocent lives,” the statement said.

The Army also emphasised the importance of public cooperation in the fight against insurgency, noting that ongoing operations rely heavily on credible information from local communities.

Residents were urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious movements, and resist any attempts by criminal elements to lure them into unlawful activities.

The military further highlighted the need for sustained socio-economic interventions to address vulnerabilities that make individuals susceptible to recruitment by insurgent groups.

It noted that efforts such as empowerment programmes, skills development, and improved access to basic services would help reduce reliance on illegal means of livelihood.

Reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace in the region, the Army said it would continue to intensify operations against insurgents while working with communities to strengthen security.

It added that lasting stability would depend not only on military action but also on strong collaboration between security agencies, government institutions, and local populations.
