The Kano State Government has commenced steps to recover duplicate July 2026 salary payments mistakenly made to some civil servants, blaming the error on a technical problem encountered during the payment process.
The directive was contained in a circular dated July 26, 2026, and signed by the Deputy Director of the Kano Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (KIPPIS), Abdulhadi Hamza, on behalf of the State Accountant General.
According to the notice, the duplicate payments were traced to a technical glitch experienced by the bank handling the salary disbursement.
The government disclosed that the bank had already begun reversing the excess payments from the accounts of affected workers.
It, therefore, advised beneficiaries of the duplicate payments not to tamper with the funds pending the completion of the recovery process.
“The concerned bank is currently making efforts to reverse the duplicate payments directly from the affected accounts,” the circular stated.
It added: “All affected staff are kindly advised not to take any action at this time and to await further directives from the Office of the Accountant General.”
The government explained that where the bank is unable to recover the excess funds through the reversal process, affected workers would be notified of the procedure for refunding the overpaid amount.
The Office of the Accountant General appealed to civil servants for patience and cooperation while efforts continue to resolve the issue.
