The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has inaugurated a table tennis court at its national headquarters in Abuja as part of efforts to promote staff health and productivity.
The facility was commissioned on Tuesday by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, according to a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu.
Speaking at the event, the Corps Marshal described the project as more than just a recreational addition, noting that it is a strategic investment in the physical and mental wellbeing of personnel.
“This facility is not just for recreation; it is a deliberate investment in the health and productivity of our workforce,” he said.
He explained that table tennis offers several benefits, including improved mental alertness, discipline and reflex coordination, while also serving as a platform for relaxation and bonding among staff.
According to him, the court was built to standard and is suitable for both experienced players and beginners within the Corps.
Mohammed added that the initiative aligns with the agency’s broader policy of encouraging healthy living through sports development.
He also noted that the project is part of a long-term vision to nurture talent and produce top-level athletes within the organisation, building on existing successes in sports such as handball and badminton.
“Providing a conducive environment for sporting activities will boost morale and encourage our personnel to channel their energy into productive and healthy pursuits,” he stated.
The Corps Marshal urged staff to take ownership of the facility by ensuring its proper use and maintenance, while upholding discipline and sportsmanship.
The commissioning, he said, marks another step in the Corps’ ongoing efforts to strengthen staff welfare and institutional development.
